# Bitcoin Data Labs

> Bitcoin has no CEO and no annual report. Bitcoin Data Labs is an open-source non-profit that measures Bitcoin Core development, the Lightning Network and on-chain activity, and publishes the results as open dashboards, datasets, reports and research papers.

Every number in our papers is produced by code published with the paper, from a fixed data cutoff. Security results are aggregates only: no individual node is named, ranked or labelled. ## Research papers: Lightning security

How does the Lightning Network hold up when its software fails? Lightning is a payment network built on Bitcoin, run by thousands of independent operators on four open-source implementations. In 2026 every implementation disclosed security vulnerabilities. This series measures, from public gossip and the chain, how the network held up and how operators responded.
